ADOPTIONS AND SUCCESS STORIES

Our latest adoption. This was sent to us by the Belgium Family who took her home April 2010:

"Hi,

We just wanted to let you know that eventually we got Maya back to her new home here in Belgium. Here are some pictures of her with our other dog, Virus, on the beaches of the North Sea, a little bit cooler than the lovely Caye Caulker ones, but they love it the same.

We had a long journey home, as the iceland volcano was erupting and disrupting the flights to Europe, so long hours in the airports and a long bus jouney too (over 50 hours!). She behaved so well throughout the trip though and seemed happy to get back in her cage each time. She gets on well with Virus, and today we start training her to be a 'well educated' dog.

My husband still thinks I am crazy, and I am sure it will be harder with two dogs, but I am sure Maya will give us more love than we expect :).

Domonique"

Thanks to you too Domonique - keep us posted on your success with her.

Scabbie: Male, pit mix, 6 months approx, found Nov 2009.

ADOPTED MARCH 2010: Now we have our next problem. Scabby (not sure what he thinks about this name, as we variously call him itchy, scabby, scooby etc!) Quite the most excited little dog, friendly and energetic and in need of a good home. We are treating him for the mange, and will be looking to foster him out as soon as possible. He will gradually grow back all his hair. This owner will need to know a thing or two about dogs, as he is high energy, and will need a fair amount of training and excercise. Although loving and kind - he can be a bit boisterous. Will post a pic when I get one! Really adorable and if I had more space I would take him myself!!

Hattie: Dog, female, found 25 Aug 2009 - Nov 2009

We called her Hattie and she now resides with Debbie while we try to find her a home. Latest report from Debbie is "She is getting healthier by the day, today she barked at someone passing by and it is the first time I have heard her voice. Wagging her tail, eating a lot, on the road to recovery". So all is well with Hattie. Here is the latest picture of her. We have found someone to take her, the very lady who found her in the beginning. At that time, she had no idea about dogs and had never owned one. She is just waiting for her fence to be built and Hattie will have a wonderful new home with Ani, John and Ace (their other 'find'). HOME FOUND!

Mi-Yao: Kitten, 2 Sept 2009 - Nov 2009

Who could not love this little guy (or gel) - we are not too sure as she is so young! Found under a hammock store a few days ago after we had left her to Mi-Yao for a day or so hoping that mum would come back and find her.

No luck, so we broke through the floor and found this little one hungry and exhausted. After a few drops of milk she shut right up. She now hangs with Hattie until we can find her a home, who has adopted Mi Yao to such an extent she picks the Kitty up by the back of the neck and moves her around, they are soo close and she seems to truly love the kitty.... Perhaps someone would like to take care of them both? Go on - what's to lose?

HOME FOUND! Kenny has him (as it turns out! and called him Jack - super cat now!)

Fluffy (AKA Shaggy):

Fluggy has officially been adopted! Our first serious success story. Doris found a local man who would like to take Shaggy to his farm in Cayo. A beautiful place for a dog to be. Doris is fostering Shaggy until he can get the dog transported up to the farm. Our thanks. HOME FOUND!!

TAKING ONE OF OUR GUYS HOME TO THE USA

The first thing to do is contact your airline regarding their rules on traveling with animals. There are often weather embargoes, which means that if the weather is too cold or too hot, your pet can't travel on that day. You will need to check with your airline the day you plan to travel, but make sure that you have a reservation for your pet well in advance! The type of carrier you need will depend on if your new friend is going to travel in the airplane cabin with you, or underneath with cargo. It will also depend on the size of your pet. You will need to discuss what type of carrier you need with the airline you are flying with. We are hoping to collect up a few carriers to save you the expense of one.

From the veterinarian's your new pet will need their Rabies shot (if over 12 weeks old) two weeks before traveling, all their vaccines (up to date, not overdue), and a health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. If adopted through us, the pet will be pre-vaccinated, and we will help you get the Health Certificate.

There is no quarantine for dogs traveling from Belize to the United States so you will be able to pick up your new best friend right away.

More coming soon......
