SPAY AND NEUTER PROGRAM
Part of what we are trying to do is to reduce population numbers by reducing the abililty of dogs and cats to get pregnant! This is understood around the world as the best and most humane way of keeping populations under control.
We have since opening our doors in Aug 2009, and with the help of many organisations and our own vet, successfully had more than 100 animals spayed or neutered. For a tiny organisation such as ours that is a superb effort with something like 2 animals a week being taken off the reproduction roller coaster!
We hold a midweek clinic every week that our vet is here (9 months of the year) and try to operate on as many animals as we can gather. In March 2011, the WORLD VET organisation from the USA came to our doors and, bringing 15 helpers, vet techs and vets, operated on over 30 animals in 2 days and then went to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, to operate on further 55!! WELL DONE to you all, and thanks so much from us!
Our clinic actually managed to hold up pretty well for those days, with extra tents, tables and ice laid on!
There are whispers that they want to come on back in a year or two.... fingers crossed!! Meanwhile we will keep up our end!!
